IDE/Compiler Engineer, (all genders)
Ferrous Systems is an IT development service and training provider in the Rust programming language. Founded by members of the Rust project, the company engages in all aspects of Rust development and Open-Source sustainability. Our hallmark product is Ferrocene, the first Rust toolchain for safety- and mission-critical needs.
As an IDE/Compiler Engineer, you will play a key role in integrating upstream changes, ensuring stability, and contributing to the overall development of our compiler and tooling infrastructure. Your task is to constantly improve the stability and capabilities of our tooling together with our compiler lead and relevant customers.

This position can be filled full-time or part-time.
We want you to join our team to:
- Maintain and review changes on rust-analyzer and rustc codebases.
- Collaborate with rust-analyzer maintainers to tangibly improve the project.
- Address incoming requests from customers regarding rust-analyzer.
- Analyze system performance with a focus on memory usage.
- Mentor students and other members of the team.
- Engage in peer review of the changes proposed by other team members.
- Work closely with our compiler lead on future improvements of the rust toolchain.
- Improve Ferrocene’s target support by porting our compiler to new targets.
- Work on additional engineering tasks based on team needs.
Apply to this position if you have:
- Strong experience in compiler development or low-level systems programming.
- Proficiency in Rust. Preference for knowledge of python, typescript, or C++.
- Experience maintaining downstream distributions and open-source contributions.
- Ability to collaborate in a distributed, international team environment.
- A proactive mindset and a willingness to take on additional engineering tasks beyond compiler maintenance.
